About
The CC Story
IF YOUr BUSINESS CLOSED, what real world impact would that have?
Community Culture has a rich history rooted in the evolution and integration of several community-focused transport services. The journey began in 1982 when the Blacktown Community Transport Coordinating Committee started operations, providing 28 trips to 14 clients in its first week.
By 1988, it was incorporated as Blacktown Community Transport Incorporated, eventually expanding to serve over 1,500 clients with a fleet of 12 vehicles.
Meanwhile, in the Blue Mountains, Mountains Community Transport began in 1986 with funding from the Home and Community Care Program (HACC), followed by Nepean Community Transport in 1987 for the Penrith area. These services merged in 2004 to form GREAT Community Transport Inc., offering comprehensive transport services supported by a dedicated volunteer workforce. For nearly three decades, GREAT Community Transport provided assistance with shopping, medical and hospital transports, centre-based meals, and social outings.
In 2017, Blacktown Community Transport rebranded to Easy-Go Connect, aiming to expand beyond community transport. By 2018, Easy-Go Connect and GREAT Community Transport began discussions on merging to create a more integrated, multi-service organisation. Recognising the potential for delivering a broader range of services, the boards of both organisations saw the merger as an opportunity to enhance their impact.
On 1 July 2019, the merger was formalised, retaining the name GREAT Community Transport. However, as the organisation evolved, it rebranded to Active Care Network on 1 July 2020. The new organisation swiftly adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding services to include welfare checks and a Gardening and Maintenance Service, ensuring clients received essential support during challenging times.
Parallel to these developments, Peppercorn Services Incorporated was established in 2001. Initially, it managed the Hawkesbury Community Transport Service at the request of the Department of Transport due to financial and operational challenges.
Over the years, Peppercorn expanded its services to include a centre-based meals programme, lawn mowing services, and the Living IN Communities (LINCS) programme. It also managed the Hawkesbury District Senior Citizens Centre and various family programmes.
In 2021, Peppercorn assumed NDIS Support Coordination Services and expanded flood recovery support to six local government areas, serving over 4,500 residents. The organisation underwent a significant restructure in 2022 to align its strategy with sector reforms, securing grants for a new client management system and social impact measurement. This restructure aimed to consolidate corporate services and embed service development roles in aged care and resilience services.
By 2023, Peppercorn had further expanded its services, including CHSP Transport and Other Food Services, and secured funding for disaster preparedness research in partnership with Bligh Park Community Services. The organisation also launched a counselling support service for flood-impacted residents and continued to advocate for and support vulnerable communities.
Today, as a unified entity under the name Community Culture, the organisation stands as a leading multi-service provider committed to delivering exceptional support and services across the regions it serves. With a strong foundation built on decades of experience and a forward-looking approach, Community Culture is dedicated to enhancing the well-being and quality of life for all its clients.
